Welcome to Chorus Cappella's website.
We are an 18-voice chamber choir specializing in sacred and secular unaccompanied music written with a small choir in mind. Since our founding in 1992, the choir has studied and performed a vast amount of repertoire spanning many genres by composers from all over the world ranging from chant and early Renaissance to contemporary works.
Currently, Chorus Cappella is in residence at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Orinda, CA, under the direction of David Auerbach. Since 1998, we have been incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) organization supported by donations, performance fees, recording sales and singers' dues.
Chorus Cappella has visited England twice on study tours to work with leading British choral conductors such as Ralph Allwood and Francis Grier in London, Cambridge, Oxford and Eton. Our 1997 tour included recording a CD at Jesus College, Cambridge, featuring a commissioned work by Grier entitled "Thou Hast Made Me Endless." While in London, we premiered Grier's piece at St. Paul's Cathedral, as well as performed concerts in the cathedrals at Salisbury and Wells, Buckfast Abbey and churches in Cornwall and London.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, we have appeared at Grace Cathedral, Mission Dolores Basilica, St. Ignatius Church, St. Dominic’s Church and at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. In the East Bay, we frequently perform for the Contra Costa Performing Arts Society, Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, and many other venues both in concert and as part of worship services. In 1998, we hosted a concert by the Eton College Chapel Choir which brought together the touring British choristers with local high school youth.
In October of 2006, the choir is planning an 8 day tour of Scotland, presenting concerts around the country.
